If you had your dog before you and your boyfriend, fiancé or husband broke up, your dog is suffering. This is a fact that you should not underestimate or ignore. You may be sad and disappointed or just happy and relieved that it’s over. The situation is difficult for your dog. He doesn’t understand what happened. For him there is also guilt or innocence in people. An important part of his life has disappeared. A person he loved and valued suddenly disappeared from one day to the next.
As is the case with people, every dog deals with the situation differently. Some dogs don’t notice anything at all, others are depressed, don’t want to go out anymore or even refuse to eat. Whether you can see it or not, every dog suffers after a separation!
How do I handle this ?
If your dog is suffering from separation, it is very important that you are understanding. Approach your dog and try to distract him. This not only helps your dog but also you. Do fun things like hikes and excursions. Meet new dog friends or a new trick. Distraction is really important now, cuddle with your dog a lot and just make him happy, that way you will be happy too!
